Idaho Environmental Educators Association Conference

I had a great time at this conference last year, and I am planning to attend again in Boise on March 1 and 2.  I wanted to share the information now since the early bird registration fee is due on February 1.  If you teach any of the natural sciences or just enjoy incorporating environmental concepts into your curriculum, I would recommend you going to this Conference.  And the Zoo Boise visit should be so fun!  I loved the field trip last year to Birds of Prey.

Winter Geography and Science at CSI

Hi and welcome back!  It's a good day to recommit to this site, because I have missed sharing so many wonderful opportunities and stories about science and STEM.  I will start by introducing you to a free internet-based site that focuses on migrations.  Journey North is a great place to explore, whether you are a teacher or not.  I am teaching a community ed class on January 15 at CSI to review a few of the fun activities you can do with Journey North.  If you teach geography....I highly recommend you participate in Mystery Classroom.  The 2013 Season starts on January 28, and you receive weekly clues to help you explore the globe.   My class only costs $15 and it will be a fun night!  Call CSI at 208-678-1400 to register.

Funding for an Environmental Project

We have the opportunity to pursue another grant specifically for environmental projects in small communities in Idaho.  Thanks to the Idaho Environmental Educators Association for letting me know!

Youth Environmental Project Grant - Funds Available

Thanks to the generous support of US EPA, the Alaska Forum is offering a funding opportunity for youth (6th to 12th grade) to implement small projects in their communities. We have developed a detailed Request for Proposals which outlines the procedures and requirements for applying for funding up to $5,000. The program will support focused proposals from small communities (population of less than 5,000) across EPA Region 10 (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington) where youth seek involvement in environmental stewardship efforts. Proposals will be selected where youth are matched with a local environmental professional or teacher who will mentor youth as they address a specific problem in the community and work to solve it. Non-profit organizations, middle schools and high schools serving communities with a population of less than 5,000 are located in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington may submit proposals.
